Effective July 1st, 2018 applications for most building permits will need to be completed through Linn County Planning and Zoning. If you need a permit from Linn County please call their office first to start the application process at 319-892-5130.

City of Lisbon Permits:

Exemption from building permit requirements does not grant authorization for any work to be done in any manner in violation of the provisions of the building code or any other laws or ordinances of Linn County. Check with the Linn County Zoning Division, 319-892-5130, regarding any applicable zoning and site plan review requirements. This may include floodplain development permits if proposed working is within the Special Flood Hazard Area.
Building permits are not required for the following:
- 1. One-story detached accessory structures used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses, and similar uses, provided the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet. Zoning Permits are required for these projects.
- 2. Fences not over 7 feet high.
- 3. Retaining walls not over 6 feet high, measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall, unless supporting a surcharge.
- 4. Water tanks supported directly upon grade if the capacity does not exceed 5000 gallons and the ratio of height to diameter does not exceed 2 to 1. Zoning Permits are required for these projects.
- 5. Sidewalks and driveways.
- 6. Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops and similar finish work.
- 7. Prefabricated swimming pools that are less than 24 inches deep.
- 8. Swings and other playground equipment.
- 9. Window awnings supported by an exterior wall which do not project more than 54 inches from the exterior wall and that do not require additional support.
- 10. Decks not exceeding 200 square feet in area and not more than 30 inches above grade at any point. Zoning Permits are required for these projects.
